Overview

An autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting Glypican-3 (GPC3), developed by Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). GPC3 is a cell-surface protein overexpressed in the majority of HCC cases but not in normal liver tissue, making it an ideal target for immunotherapy. The therapy involves the ex vivo genetic modification of a patient's T cells to express a CAR that recognizes GPC3, which, upon re-infusion, directs the T cells to identify and eliminate GPC3-positive tumor cells. Clinical development included Phase 1/2 trials, though these have been withdrawn or suspended.
