Anti-HBVxCD3 is a bispecific T-cell engager antibody being developed by Ancora Bio for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. The therapeutic is designed to simultaneously bind to the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) expressed on the surface of infected hepatocytes and the CD3 receptor complex on T cells. By bridging these two cells, the antibody facilitates the formation of an immunological synapse, redirecting the cytotoxic activity of T cells to selectively eliminate HBV-infected liver cells. This mechanism aims to bypass the exhausted state of endogenous HBV-specific T cells often found in chronic patients, thereby reducing the viral reservoir and potentially achieving a functional cure. As of 2022, the candidate was in preclinical development with plans to enter clinical trials in 2024.
