Overview

anti-hEGFRvIII CAR-T is a type of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target cancer cells expressing the human epidermal growth factor receptor variant III (hEGFRvIII). In this therapy, a patient's own T cells are collected and genetically modified, typically using a retrovirus or lentivirus, to express a CAR that specifically recognizes hEGFRvIII. These engineered CAR-T cells are then expanded in vitro and infused back into the patient. Upon encountering tumor cells displaying the hEGFRvIII antigen, the CAR-T cells become activated, proliferate, and exert cytotoxic effects, leading to the targeted destruction of the cancer cells. This approach aims to harness the immune system to specifically combat hEGFRvIII-positive tumors, such as glioblastoma.
