Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-hIL-6R antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and bind to the human interleukin-6 receptor (hIL-6R), which exists in both soluble (sIL-6R) and membrane-bound (mIL-6R) forms. By binding to hIL-6R, the antibody prevents the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) from interacting with its receptor and initiating the gp130 signaling cascade. This inhibition blocks both classical signaling (via mIL-6R) and trans-signaling (via sIL-6R) pathways, which are key drivers of chronic inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and cytokine release syndromes. Several therapeutic antibodies in this class, such as tocilizumab, sarilumab, and satralizumab, have been developed and approved for various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
