Overview

This preclinical-stage VHH antibody, also known as a nanobody, is being developed by COGNANOUS for the treatment of HIV-1 infection and AIDS. Derived from camelid heavy-chain-only antibodies, VHH antibodies are significantly smaller than conventional antibodies, allowing them to bind to recessed or hidden epitopes on the HIV-1 Envelope (Env) protein. The Env protein is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies as it mediates viral attachment and fusion with host cell membranes. By targeting conserved regions of the Env spike, this nanobody is designed to block viral entry and neutralize a broad range of HIV-1 strains.
