Anti-human PD-L1 refers to a class of therapeutic and diagnostic agents designed to bind to the Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1) protein. PD-L1 is a transmembrane protein often overexpressed on the surface of cancer cells, where it interacts with the Programmed Death-1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells to suppress immune responses. By blocking this interaction, anti-PD-L1 agents—which include monoclonal antibodies like atezolizumab, durvalumab, and avelumab, as well as emerging small molecules and antibody fragments—restore the ability of cytotoxic T cells to recognize and eliminate tumor cells. These agents are widely used in the treatment of various malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer, urothelial carcinoma, and triple-negative breast cancer. Additionally, anti-human PD-L1 antibodies are utilized as diagnostic tools in immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess PD-L1 expression levels, which often serves as a predictive biomarker for response to immunotherapy.
