Overview

Anti-human thymocyte globulin (rabbit) is a purified polyclonal IgG immunosuppressive antibody preparation derived from rabbits immunized with human thymocytes. It contains cytotoxic antibodies directed against multiple antigens on human T-lymphocytes and other immune cells. The drug acts primarily by binding to T-cell surface antigens and inducing T-cell depletion through complement-mediated cytotoxicity and apoptosis. This profound reduction in circulating T lymphocytes suppresses the host immune response, making it effective for the prevention and treatment of acute rejection in kidney transplantation. It is also used off-label for other transplant types and some hematologic conditions such as aplastic anemia[2][3][6][7]. The main FDA-approved indication is prophylaxis and treatment of acute renal allograft rejection in combination with other immunosuppressants[1][4][5].
