The anti-ICAM1 near-infrared photoimmunotherapy conjugate is an experimental therapeutic agent designed for the treatment of radioresistant esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. It consists of a monoclonal antibody targeting Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM1) conjugated to a near-infrared (NIR) photosensitizer. The mechanism of action involves the selective binding of the conjugate to ICAM1-expressing tumor cells, followed by activation with NIR light. This activation induces rapid cell membrane damage and immunogenic cell death. The agent is currently being studied by Zhejiang Cancer Hospital in ex vivo models using tumor fragments from patients with recurrent disease to evaluate its potential to overcome radiotherapy resistance and stimulate lymphocyte infiltration.
