Anti-IL-1β IgG refers to a class of monoclonal antibodies of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) isotype that specifically target and neutralize interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). IL-1β is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine and a key product of the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, playing a central role in sterile inflammation and the progression of chronic diseases such as diabetic kidney disease (DKD), gout, and atherosclerosis. By binding to IL-1β, these antibodies prevent its interaction with the IL-1 receptor type I (IL-1R1), thereby inhibiting the downstream inflammatory cascade. In preclinical models of DKD, anti-IL-1β IgG has been shown to reduce renal expression of injury and fibrotic markers, attenuate the decline of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and preserve podocyte numbers. Clinical examples of this class include canakinumab (an IgG1 antibody) and gevokizumab.
