Anti-IL1β refers to a class of therapeutic agents, primarily monoclonal antibodies, designed to neutralize the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). IL-1β is a key mediator of the innate immune response, involved in the recruitment of inflammatory cells and the induction of other pro-inflammatory mediators such as IL-6 and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Dysregulation of IL-1β signaling is central to the pathogenesis of various autoinflammatory and autoimmune conditions. By binding directly to IL-1β, these agents prevent its interaction with the IL-1 receptor (IL-1R1), thereby inhibiting the downstream signaling cascade. Clinical examples of this class include canakinumab, which is approved for conditions like Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS) and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and gevokizumab. In preclinical research, anti-IL1β antibodies are frequently used as benchmarks to evaluate the role of IL-1 signaling in diseases such as myocarditis, peritonitis, and psoriasis.
