Anti-IL17 monoclonal antibodies are a class of biologic therapies designed to neutralize the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-17 (specifically IL-17A, and in some cases IL-17F). IL-17 is primarily produced by Th17 cells and plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. By binding to IL-17, these antibodies prevent the cytokine from interacting with its receptor complex (IL-17R), thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways that lead to tissue inflammation and damage. In oncology research, such as in pancreatic cancer, IL-17 signaling is investigated for its role in modulating the tumor microenvironment, promoting immunosuppression, and influencing neutrophil recruitment. Major approved drugs in this category include secukinumab and ixekizumab.
