Anti-IL17A antibodies represent a therapeutic class of monoclonal antibodies designed to selectively bind and neutralize interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a key pro-inflammatory cytokine primarily produced by Th17 cells. IL-17A plays a central role in the pathogenesis of several chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, by promoting tissue inflammation and the recruitment of immune cells like neutrophils. By binding to IL-17A, these biologics prevent its interaction with the IL-17 receptor complex, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways that lead to clinical symptoms and tissue damage. Prominent examples of approved drugs in this class include secukinumab and ixekizumab, which have demonstrated high efficacy in clearing skin lesions and reducing joint inflammation.
