Influenza A plasma, specifically anti-influenza A immune plasma, is a blood-derived biologic product obtained from donors who have high levels of antibodies against the influenza A virus due to prior infection or vaccination. This convalescent or immune plasma is intended for use as a passive immunotherapy to treat patients with severe influenza A infections. The therapeutic effect is mediated by the transfer of polyclonal antibodies that neutralize the virus, primarily by binding to surface proteins like hemagglutinin, thereby preventing viral attachment and entry into host cells. It is being investigated as a potential treatment to reduce complications and mortality in patients where standard antiviral treatments may be insufficient or where viral resistance is a concern.
