Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-integrin αvβ6 refers to monoclonal antibodies or other inhibitory agents that target the integrin αvβ6 heterodimer. Integrin αvβ6 is a cell surface receptor composed of the αv (ITGAV) and β6 (ITGB6) subunits, expressed primarily on epithelial cells and upregulated during tissue injury, inflammation, fibrosis, and malignancy. By binding to integrin αvβ6, these agents block its interaction with extracellular matrix ligands (such as fibronectin and vitronectin) and prevent the activation of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), thereby inhibiting downstream fibrotic, inflammatory, and oncogenic pathways. Inhibiting integrin αvβ6 is being investigated as a therapeutic strategy for various conditions, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), organ fibrosis (such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), and solid tumors.
