Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-integrin alpha4 antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and block integrin alpha-4 (ITGA4, also known as CD49d). Integrin alpha-4 forms heterodimers with beta-1 (forming VLA-4) or beta-7 integrins, which are critical for leukocyte adhesion and migration into inflamed tissues. By blocking these interactions, anti-integrin alpha4 antibodies inhibit the trafficking of inflammatory cells across the blood-brain barrier or into mucosal tissues. This mechanism makes them therapeutic candidates for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, and asthma. Natalizumab is the most prominent approved clinical representative of this class.
