Anti-interleukin-10 (IL-10) neutralizing antibodies are a class of monoclonal antibodies designed to bind to and inhibit the biological activity of IL-10, a potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive cytokine. IL-10 plays a critical role in maintaining immune homeostasis by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and limiting T-cell activation. However, its overexpression is associated with chronic viral infections and the suppression of anti-tumor immunity, where it facilitates immune evasion. By neutralizing IL-10, these antibodies aim to restore or enhance immune activation. In clinical development, candidates such as BT063 have been investigated for autoimmune conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and chronic inflammatory diseases. In laboratory research, these antibodies are essential tools for dissecting cytokine networks and validating the role of IL-10 in various immunological processes, such as the suppression of IL-2 production and T-lymphocyte proliferation.
