Overview

Anti-LeY-CAR-transduced T cells represent an adoptive cell therapy where a patient's own T cells are genetically engineered to express a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) specifically designed to recognize the Lewis Y (LeY) antigen. LeY is a carbohydrate-based tumor-associated antigen found on the surface of various cancer cells, including those in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This engineering process involves introducing a gene encoding the CAR into the T cells, typically using a viral vector. The CAR enables the T cells to directly bind to LeY-expressing tumor cells, bypassing the need for MHC presentation, and subsequently activate, proliferate, and exert potent cytotoxic effects, leading to the destruction of cancer cells. This therapy aims to harness the body's immune system to specifically target and eliminate LeY-positive malignancies.
