Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-LFA-1 blocking antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and inhibit lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1), a heterodimeric integrin (composed of CD11a and CD18 subunits) expressed on the surface of leukocytes. By blocking the interaction between LFA-1 and its ligands, such as intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), these antibodies prevent leukocyte adhesion, extravasation, and migration to sites of inflammation, as well as T-cell activation. This therapeutic approach has been investigated for various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, such as psoriasis (e.g., efalizumab) and transplant rejection (e.g., odulimomab), and is also widely used in preclinical research to study leukocyte trafficking and inflammatory disease models, including diabetic kidney disease.
