Overview

**Anti-Mac-1-saporin** is an experimental immunotoxin consisting of an antibody directed against Mac-1 (also known as CD11b, a beta-2 integrin highly expressed on microglia and macrophages) chemically conjugated to the ribosome-inactivating protein **saporin**. The antibody component provides high specificity for cells expressing Mac-1/CD11b, and, upon antibody-mediated binding and internalization, the saporin toxin inactivates ribosomes, thereby causing selective cell death. This approach allows for targeted ablation of microglia and macrophages in vivo or in vitro. Anti-Mac-1-saporin is primarily used as a research tool to investigate the roles of these immune cells in disease models (e.g., inflammation, neurodegeneration, colitis) and in mechanisms of tissue repair and immune homeostasis. It is not a marketed pharmaceutical product but is commercially available for research from specialized reagent suppliers[2][6][1][5].
