The anti-marinobufagenin monoclonal antibody (anti-MBG mAb) is a research-stage biologic designed to neutralize marinobufagenin (MBG), an endogenous cardiotonic steroid and Na/K-ATPase inhibitor. MBG levels are elevated in conditions such as salt-sensitive hypertension, preeclampsia, and chronic renal failure, where it contributes to cardiovascular pathology, including cardiac fibrosis and hypertrophy. By binding and neutralizing MBG, the antibody restores Na/K-ATPase activity, reduces blood pressure, and prevents tissue remodeling. Preclinical studies in models like Dahl salt-sensitive rats and diabetic rats have demonstrated its potential to treat essential hypertension, myocardial fibrosis, and aortic collagen synthesis. The antibody is primarily represented by hybridoma clones 3E9, 4G4, and 4H2, which are covered by US Patent 8,038,997.
