Overview

The anti-MBG monoclonal antibody is a therapeutic agent designed to target and neutralize marinobufagenin (MBG), an endogenous cardiotonic steroid implicated in various pathological conditions, including chronic kidney disease and pre-eclampsia. MBG is known to bind to Na/K-ATPase, affecting cellular processes and initiating profibrotic signaling, which leads to vascular fibrosis and inhibits Fli1, a negative regulator of collagen-1 synthesis. By binding to MBG, this antibody prevents its detrimental effects, thereby reversing vascular fibrosis, restoring vasorelaxation, and improving kidney function. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated its potential to reduce collagen-1 levels, increase Fli1 expression, normalize blood pressure, and reduce proteinuria.
