Overview

Anti-MCP-1 antibodies are a class of monoclonal antibodies designed to target and neutralize Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (MCP-1), also known as C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 2 (CCL2). MCP-1 is a potent chemokine that plays a critical role in the recruitment of monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to sites of inflammation and tissue injury. By binding to MCP-1, these antibodies prevent its interaction with the CCR2 receptor, thereby inhibiting the chemotactic migration of inflammatory cells. Preclinical research has explored the use of anti-MCP-1 antibodies in a wide range of conditions, including prostate cancer progression, atherosclerosis, viral myocarditis, neuropathic pain, and sepsis-associated muscle weakness. While specific clinical candidates such as carlumab (CNTO 888) have been developed, the term "anti-MCP-1 antibody" generically refers to any antibody-based therapeutic targeting this pathway.
