Anti-MERS-CoV Convalescent Plasma Therapy is a biologic passive immunotherapy developed by the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council Infection Control Center and the World Health Organization. The therapy involves the administration of plasma harvested from donors who have recovered from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection and possess high titers (at least 1:160) of anti-MERS-CoV neutralizing antibodies. These antibodies are intended to bind to and neutralize the MERS-CoV virus in critically ill patients, thereby reducing viral load and mitigating the severity of the infection. The therapy was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02190799) to assess safety, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy in patients with severe laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infection.
