anti-miR-205-5p is a synthetic antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically target and neutralize microRNA-205-5p (miR-205-5p). In various malignancies, including cervical cancer, miR-205-5p functions as an oncomiR, promoting tumor progression by driving cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while suppressing apoptosis. By binding to the mature miR-205-5p sequence, the inhibitor restores the expression of downstream target genes such as FXYD6, MGP, and MMRN2. Research indicates that while anti-miR-205-5p may have limited pro-apoptotic activity as a monotherapy, it significantly enhances the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents like cisplatin, leading to increased late apoptosis. This suggests its potential utility as a combination therapy to overcome chemoresistance in cervical cancer and other miR-205-5p-overexpressing tumors.
