anti-miR-20a refers to a class of antisense oligonucleotides or synthetic molecules designed to bind and inhibit the function of microRNA-20a (miR-20a). miR-20a is a member of the miR-17-92 cluster and is frequently overexpressed in various malignancies, including breast cancer, where it acts as an oncomir by downregulating tumor suppressors such as PTEN. By sequestering or promoting the degradation of miR-20a, anti-miR-20a agents aim to restore the expression of target genes, thereby inhibiting oncogenic signaling pathways like PI3K/Akt and suppressing cell proliferation, invasion, and drug resistance. While primarily used in preclinical research, targeting the miR-20a axis is considered a potential therapeutic strategy for cancer treatment.
