Overview

Anti-miR-23b antagonist refers to a class of antisense oligonucleotides or antagomirs designed to specifically bind and inhibit the function of microRNA-23b (miR-23b). In the context of oncology, particularly renal cell carcinoma, miR-23b has been identified as an oncogenic microRNA (oncomiR) that promotes cell survival and inhibits apoptosis by targeting various tumor-suppressive pathways. By antagonizing miR-23b, these agents aim to restore normal apoptotic signaling and reduce tumor cell viability. Research indicates that high expression of miR-23b correlates with poor survival in renal cancer patients, making it a potential therapeutic target. While primarily used in preclinical research settings to study miRNA function and validate targets, these antagonists represent a broader strategy of miRNA-targeted RNA therapies.
