anti-miR-7 is a synthetic antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically target and inhibit the function of microRNA-7 (miR-7). miR-7 is a highly conserved microRNA that is frequently dysregulated in various pathological conditions, particularly in oncology where it can act as an oncomir by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion through the regulation of targets such as EGFR, IRS-1, and Raf-1. In the context of endometrial cancer, anti-miR-7 has demonstrated the ability to significantly inhibit the migration and invasion of invasive cell lines like HEC-1A in vitro. These molecules typically function by binding to the mature miR-7 sequence via complementary base-pairing, thereby sequestering the miRNA and preventing its interaction with target messenger RNAs. While primarily utilized as a research-use-only (RUO) tool for functional genomics, miR-7 inhibitors are being explored as potential therapeutic candidates for the treatment of advanced-stage cancers and other miR-7-associated diseases.
