The anti-NME7AB monoclonal antibody is a preclinical-stage biologic therapeutic being developed by Minerva Biotechnologies for the treatment and prevention of solid tumors and cancer metastasis. It is designed to selectively target NME7AB (also known as NME7-AB), a truncated, onco-embryonic isoform of nucleoside diphosphate kinase 7 (NME7) that is aberrantly re-activated in metastatic cancer cells. By binding to NME7AB, the antibody blocks its interaction with MUC1*, a cleaved, active form of the transmembrane receptor mucin-1 (MUC1) that is expressed in over 75% of solid tumors. This blockade inhibits the dimerization of MUC1* and the subsequent activation of the MAP kinase growth pathway, thereby suppressing cancer cell proliferation, reversing established metastasis, and potentially inducing cancer cell death. Crucially, the antibody is engineered to selectively bind NME7AB without cross-reacting with NME1, which is essential for the normal function of healthy cells.
