This monoclonal antibody (IgG1 Kappa) targets a novel epitope of the cysteine protease (gingipain) produced by the periodontal pathogen *Porphyromonas gingivalis*. Developed by researchers at China Medical University in Taiwan, the antibody is intended for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), based on the link between *P. gingivalis* infection and the induction of citrullinated proteins that trigger RA. In preclinical studies using a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model, the mAb demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy, including dose-dependent reductions in joint inflammation, synovial proliferation, and cartilage damage. The antibody exhibits high binding affinity to FCγRIIb and FCγRIII and is characterized by high thermal stability.
