Overview

Anti-PDL1 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are a class of immune checkpoint inhibitors designed to bind to Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1). PD-L1 is a protein frequently overexpressed on the surface of tumor cells and tumor-infiltrating immune cells, which interacts with the PD-1 receptor on T cells to suppress their activation and promote immune evasion. By blocking this interaction, anti-PDL1 mAbs restore the ability of the immune system, particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes, to recognize and eliminate cancer cells. This therapeutic class includes several major FDA-approved biologics, such as atezolizumab, durvalumab, and avelumab, which are used across a broad range of oncology indications including lung, bladder, and skin cancers.
