Anti-Porphyromonas gingivalis IgY is a passive immunotherapy developed by the Immunology Research Institute in Gifu (IRIG) for the treatment of periodontitis (gum disease). The therapeutic consists of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) antibodies derived from the egg yolks of chickens immunized against *Porphyromonas gingivalis*, a keystone pathogen in periodontal disease. These antibodies specifically target and neutralize gingipains, which are essential protease virulence factors (Rgp and Kgp) produced by the bacteria. By neutralizing these factors, the IgY antibody inhibits the pathogen's ability to colonize the oral cavity, degrade host tissues, and evade the host immune response. Formulated as lozenges for oral administration, this product is intended as an adjunct to conventional non-surgical periodontal therapy, such as scaling and root planing. Clinical studies have demonstrated that its use leads to a significant reduction in *P. gingivalis* cell counts and improvements in clinical markers like the gingival bleeding index.
