Anti-programmed cell death protein 1 armored CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T cells (KH-T19PD1) is an autologous cell therapy consisting of T cells genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting the CD19 antigen, while simultaneously being "armored" to secrete or express an anti-PD-1 agent (typically a single-chain variable fragment, scFv). This dual-action approach aims to enhance the efficacy of CAR-T therapy in B-cell malignancies by targeting the tumor cells via CD19 and counteracting the immunosuppressive effects of the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway within the tumor microenvironment. Developed by Jiangsu Topcel-KH Pharmaceutical, this therapy is primarily investigated for relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) to overcome T-cell exhaustion and improve persistence in the hostile tumor milieu.
