Overview

ImmunArtes is developing a monoclonal antibody that targets Staphylococcus aureus Protein A (SpA) to prevent and treat infections caused by S. aureus, including methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). SpA is a key virulence factor that allows the bacteria to evade the host immune system by binding the Fc region of immunoglobulins, thereby preventing proper opsonization and phagocytosis. By neutralizing SpA, this antibody blocks these immune-evasive mechanisms, enhancing opsonophagocytosis and promoting bacterial clearance by innate immune cells. The candidate is currently in preclinical development for life-threatening bloodstream infections such as sepsis and endocarditis. In January 2025, ImmunArtes received $729,000 in funding from CARB-X to support the development of this monoclonal antibody as a preventative measure for high-risk populations.
