Overview

Anti-PSMA antibodies are a class of monoclonal antibodies designed to target Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), also known as glutamate carboxypeptidase II, which is highly overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells and the neovasculature of various solid tumors. These antibodies serve as a versatile platform for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. In therapeutic contexts, they are often utilized as targeting moieties for radioimmunotherapy (conjugated to isotopes like Lutetium-177 or Actinium-225), antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), or as components of bispecific T-cell engagers (BiTEs). In research and diagnostics, they are employed for the targeted delivery of gene therapy vectors (e.g., encapsulated in liposomes) and for the isolation of prostate cancer-related exosomes from clinical samples. Several specific anti-PSMA antibody clones, such as J591 and 7E11, have been extensively studied in clinical and preclinical settings for the treatment of advanced and metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
