Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-RBP2b antibodies are monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies that target the Reticulocyte Binding Protein 2b (RBP2b) of *Plasmodium vivax*, a key parasite ligand involved in the invasion of human reticulocytes. RBP2b normally binds to the transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) on the surface of reticulocytes to facilitate entry. Anti-RBP2b antibodies are studied as potential therapeutic or vaccine-induced agents to block this interaction and prevent malaria infection. Additionally, naturally acquired anti-RBP2b antibodies in endemic populations serve as serological exposure markers (SEMs) to identify individuals with recent *P. vivax* infections.
