Anti-S100A9 antibody refers to a monoclonal antibody designed to bind and neutralize S100 calcium-binding protein A9 (S100A9), also known as MRP14. S100A9 is a pro-inflammatory protein that is frequently upregulated in various malignancies, including pancreatic, gastric, and colorectal cancers, where it promotes tumor growth, migration, and the recruitment of immune cells like myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). By targeting S100A9, these antibodies disrupt its interaction with key receptors such as RAGE (Receptor for Advanced Glycation End-products) and TLR4, thereby inhibiting inflammatory signaling pathways that support cancer progression. Research presented by Ohio State University indicates that anti-S100A9 antibodies can effectively block the migration of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and induce apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cell lines, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic strategy in oncology and inflammatory diseases.
