Overview

The anti-SAA1 monoclonal antibody is an experimental therapeutic agent designed to neutralize Serum Amyloid A1 (SAA1), a pro-inflammatory oncoprotein. SAA1 is secreted by the bone marrow stromal microenvironment and its levels correlate with the progression of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). The antibody works by blocking SAA1-mediated activation of the NFκB signaling pathway, which otherwise promotes the stemness, survival, and proliferation of malignant hematopoietic stem cells. Developed through a collaboration between Columbia University and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, this antibody has demonstrated the ability to reduce the proliferation of AML cell lines and is being further optimized for in vivo testing as a potential treatment to disrupt the supportive niche for hematological malignancies.
