Overview

Anti-SARS-CoV-2 human convalescent plasma is an investigational biologic therapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This plasma contains naturally generated polyclonal antibodies directed against various SARS-CoV-2 viral antigens, including the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein, the full-length spike protein, and the nucleoprotein. Developed by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), it is being evaluated for the prevention and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection in high-risk pediatric populations, such as those with immunosuppression, cardiovascular disease, or lung disease. The therapy works by providing passive immunity through the transfusion of neutralizing antibodies that can bind to and neutralize the virus, potentially reducing viral load and preventing severe disease progression.
