Overview

Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgY is an antibody preparation derived from the eggs of hens immunized with SARS-CoV-2 antigens. These antibodies (immunoglobulin Y, or IgY) specifically target the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and have demonstrated broad neutralizing activity against multiple variants of concern, including Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron. The mechanism of action involves binding to the S1 subunit and RBD on the viral spike protein and blocking its interaction with human ACE2 receptors, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgY has been developed primarily as an intranasal prophylactic agent to reduce transmission or infection risk for COVID-19. Clinical studies have shown it to be safe and well-tolerated in humans without evidence of systemic absorption[1][2][5][6][8].
