Anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin (also referred to as human intramuscular hyperimmune gamma globulin, or hIHGG anti-SARS-CoV-2) is a plasma-derived biologic developed by Biomed Lublin (now Synthaverse S.A.) in Poland, in collaboration with the Institute of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in Warsaw. The drug is produced by fractionating plasma from healthy convalescents or individuals who had COVID-19 asymptomatically, concentrating anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulins (antibodies) as the active ingredient. Its biological target is the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which it neutralizes via passive immunization. The drug was evaluated in a Phase 2 multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled non-commercial clinical trial in Poland (sponsored by Samodzielny Publiczny Szpital Kliniczny Nr 1 w Lublinie). However, in November 2021, the trial was terminated early following an interim analysis of the first 100 patients, which showed that adding the specific anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin to standard therapy did not achieve the project's efficacy endpoints.
