Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-snake venom serum (ASVS) developed by Mediclone Biotech Private Limited is a polyvalent, equine-derived polyclonal antiserum biologic used for the treatment of snake envenomation. The product contains purified immunoglobulin fragments (typically F(ab')2) obtained from the plasma of horses immunized against the venom of the "Big Four" venomous snake species found in India: the Indian Cobra (*Naja naja*), Russell's Viper (*Daboia russelii*), Saw-scaled Viper (*Echis carinatus*), and Common Krait (*Bungarus caeruleus*). Administered intravenously, these polyclonal antibodies bind to and neutralize various snake venom toxins, preventing them from reaching their physiological targets and mitigating systemic toxicity. Mediclone Biotech manufactures this therapeutic at its WHO GMP-compliant facility in Chennai and exports it to several countries in Africa and Asia, including Kenya, Bangladesh, and Egypt.
