Overview
Anti-Streptococcus mutans IgY antibody is an avian-derived polyclonal antibody (immunoglobulin Y) produced from the egg yolks of hens immunized against *Streptococcus mutans*. This specific therapeutic focuses on Cnm-positive strains of *S. mutans*, which are associated with the development of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and cerebral microbleeds. The Cnm protein on the bacterial surface facilitates binding to collagen in damaged vascular endothelium, potentially leading to neuroinflammation and microhemorrhages. Administered orally in tablet form, the IgY antibody is intended to neutralize these bacteria within the oral cavity, reducing their systemic entry and subsequent contribution to vascular brain injury and cognitive decline. The therapy is currently being evaluated in the ASIA-ICH clinical trial in Japan.
