Overview
Anti-human T-lymphocyte immunoglobulin-Fresenius, currently marketed under the brand name Grafalon, is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody preparation used for immunosuppression in organ and bone marrow transplantation. It is produced by immunizing rabbits with the human Jurkat T-lymphoblastoid cell line, resulting in antibodies that recognize a wide array of T-cell surface antigens, including CD2, CD3, CD4, CD8, CD25, and HLA class I molecules. Its primary mechanism of action involves the depletion of peripheral T-lymphocytes through complement-dependent cytotoxicity, opsonization, and induction of apoptosis. It is widely utilized for the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and for the prevention of acute rejection in solid organ transplants.
