Overview

anti-VEGFR2 (ED) is a biologic therapeutic candidate being developed by Wincal Biopharm for the treatment of retinal diseases, specifically age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). The drug is designed as a topical eye drop (ED) formulation, which aims to provide a non-invasive alternative to the standard-of-care intravitreal injections. Its mechanism of action involves binding to and inhibiting Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR2), thereby blocking VEGF-mediated signaling pathways that drive pathological angiogenesis and vascular permeability in the retina. As of early 2024, the program is in the IND-enabling stage of development.
