Anti-Wnt-5a antibodies are a class of monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies designed to bind to and neutralize the activity of Wnt-5a, a secreted glycoprotein that mediates non-canonical Wnt signaling. Wnt-5a plays a critical role in developmental processes, cell polarity, and inflammatory responses. In pathological states such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, Wnt-5a is upregulated in adipose tissue macrophages and acts to suppress the adipogenesis of mesenchymal precursor cells, contributing to metabolic dysfunction. Neutralizing these antibodies has been shown in research models to restore adipogenic potential. Additionally, Wnt-5a is a significant target in oncology, as its overexpression is linked to increased invasiveness and poor prognosis in various cancers, including melanoma and gastric cancer. While primarily used as research reagents in laboratory settings, they represent a potential therapeutic platform for addressing Wnt-mediated pathologies.
