The anti-ZIP10 antibody is a monoclonal antibody directed against the zinc transporter ZIP10 (encoded by the SLC39A10 gene). ZIP10 is a cell surface protein that plays a critical role in maintaining intracellular zinc homeostasis, and its expression is significantly upregulated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blasts. By binding to ZIP10, the antibody acts as an antagonist, blocking the uptake of zinc into the cell. This disruption of zinc metabolism leads to decreased intracellular zinc levels, which in turn impairs myeloid signaling, inhibits cell proliferation, and induces apoptosis in leukemic cells. Research presented at ASH 2024 suggests that targeting ZIP10 with such an antibody represents a potential therapeutic strategy for the management of AML.
