Antigen-specific regulatory T cells (Tregs) are an ex vivo generated cell therapy being developed by PolTREG for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, with a primary focus on Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Unlike polyclonal Tregs, which represent a broad population of regulatory cells, these antigen-specific Tregs are selected or expanded to recognize specific autoantigens associated with the disease pathology, such as those found in pancreatic islet cells. By targeting specific antigens, these cells are intended to provide localized and potent immunosuppression at the site of inflammation, thereby restoring immune tolerance and preventing the destruction of insulin-producing cells while minimizing systemic side effects. The program is currently in the preclinical development stage.
