Antipyrine + benzocaine

Antipyrine + benzocaine is a combination otic (ear) medication used primarily to relieve ear pain and swelling associated with middle ear infections (acute otitis media), as well as to facilitate the removal of excessive or impacted ear wax (cerumen). Antipyrine acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent by reducing pain and inflammation in the ear. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic that numbs the area to further alleviate discomfort. The combination may be used alongside antibiotics for infection management. This product is typically formulated as an otic solution for administration directly into the external auditory canal[1][2][3][4][5]. The FDA mandated discontinuation of unapproved prescription versions of this drug in 2015 due to regulatory concerns about safety and manufacturing standards; however, it may still be available in some markets or compounded formulations[5]. Some branded products have been reformulated or discontinued.
