Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antiscorpion Venom Serum (AScVS) is a monovalent, enzyme-refined biologic developed by Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Ltd. for the treatment of envenomation by the Indian red scorpion (*Mesobuthus tamulus*). It consists of purified equine F(ab)2 immunoglobulin fragments obtained from horses immunized against the specific scorpion venom. The serum works by binding to and neutralizing the circulating neurotoxins, preventing their interaction with physiological targets. Introduced in 1997, it was the first specific antivenom available in India for this indication and has been studied in clinical trials both as a monotherapy and in combination with prazosin to improve clinical outcomes in severe cases.
