Antisense microRNA-141 (also known as anti-miR-141 or antagomir-141) is a synthetic oligonucleotide designed to bind and sequester mature microRNA-141 (miR-141). miR-141 is a member of the miR-200 family and typically acts as a tumor suppressor in various cancers, including colorectal cancer, by targeting genes involved in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) such as ZEB1 and ZEB2. By inhibiting miR-141, these antisense molecules lead to the upregulation of its target genes, which in experimental models of colorectal cancer has been shown to promote cell proliferation, migration, and activation of the HGFR (c-MET) pathway. While primarily used as a research tool to study miR-141 function, antisense oligonucleotides targeting microRNAs are being explored as potential therapeutic agents.
